MRI Services

What is MRI?

MRI imaging is the method by which to obtain tomographic sections with a thickness of 1-30 mm in any plane of space, using a radio frequency pulse magnetic field and uniform.

 Components of the MRI equipment are:

- external magnetic field generating magnet;
- gradient coils - used to locate the signal RM;
- transmitter and receiver coils and radio frequency;
- mobile mass that the patient is seated;
- computer, weight control, cooling systems;
- Faraday cage that provides protection against radio frequency system.

When do we use MRI?

MRI is useful in the study all anatomical regions and organs or tissue with a resolution unmatched by other methods.

MRI has the best results in disease diagnosis:

- brain,
- spine,
- joints.

MRI is widely used in diagnosing diseases in athletes:

- knee joints,
- shoulder joints,
- elbow joints,
- wrist joints,
- hip joints.

The method allows angiographic studies with and without contrast substance.

It represents an excellent alternative to standard angiography in the study:

- blood brain
- the neck vessels,
- the aorta and its branches,
- the limb vasculature.

Because it avoids the use of X-ray is a great way to explore the male and female genitalia, and lately has gained ground and exploring the breasts. Listen Read phonetically

How does MRI work?

1. The patient enters the room undressing, undress and dress clothes worn a disposable gown.

 2. It entered the room where the magnet is placed on the table and examined by medical personnel.

 3. In some cases, the patient is placed on the transmitter and receiver coils RF waves.

 4. The patient then remains alone in the examination room and initiates the examination.

 5. If necessary, the substance is injected paramagnetic contrast.

These substances are safe and adverse effects occur rarely.

There may be a feeling of "coldness" in the vein puncture during injection of the contrast.

 6. It is necessary to analyze blood urea and creatinine, carried out with 24-48 hours before examination.

 7. MRI Exploration may take 15-60 minutes.

 8. Throughout the examination the patient can communicate with your doctor or nurse through intercoms.

 9. Exploration is painless. Perhaps the feeling of claustrophobia, a feeling of warmth in the preview area.

How do we prepare for MRI testing?

You will be asked if medical staff have hip, pacemaker, metal heart valves, coil or other metal object.

 The presence of pacemaker is an absolute contraindication for MRI examination.

 Plaques metal stent (prosthesis) coronary mounted metal surgical clips are not contraindications for MRI examination if you are older than six weeks into the patient.

 Tattoos and permanent makeup can affect the MRI image, as well as the presence of dentures or dental work.

 Pregnant patients should inform the radiologist on this issue.

 Some patients may experience claustrophobia, and in those cases it is better to administer a sedative before the examination.

Benefits:

- does not use X-Ray radiation;
- is a rapid and non-invasive alternative to standard arteriography;
- soft tissue images are excellent, better than those obtained by other methods;
- best reveals the brain and spinal demyelinating diseases;
- can evaluate both the structure and function of many internal organs.
 

Riscs:

- metals undetected before the examination may be affected by the magnetic field;
- method should not be used in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.


What are the MRI limits?

- bone is best visualized by CT;
- method does not accurately visualize intratumoral calcifications and sometimes can not distinguish tissue
- tumor edema;
- major bleeding in patients with CT is the preferred method.
